Domestic Violence Advocacy Fundamentals - Sept. 11 - 15, 2017 (Non-Member Registration)

This five day training provides advocates with the building blocks and fundamental information to successfully understand and work in the domestic violence movement. The training is designed to increase core knowledge and skills for individuals employed by domestic violence programs. Utilizing lectures, small group activities, role plays, audiovisuals and exciting discussions, facilitators provide participants with the opportunity to grow as advocates and learn from each other.

A wide variety of topics are covered including:

  • cultural diversity and understanding oppression
  • the history of the domestic violence movement
  • the dynamics of domestic violence
  • tactics of abusers and batterers’ intervention
  • understanding traumatic stress and trauma-informed approaches
  • working with children exposed to domestic violence
  • working with substance abusing women
  • safety planning and risk assessment
  • legal options for survivors
  • crime victims compensation
  • answering hotline calls and providing other core domestic violence services

This training fulfills all the required pre-registration training for the registered advocate (RA) credential through the Ohio Advocate Network.

Monday, September 11 through Friday, September 15, 2017.  Registration begins daily at 8:30 am. Training is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Refund Policy

A full refund will be given until the deadline, one week prior to the event. If you cancel your registration after the deadline or fail to attend the training, you or your agency are responsible for the full registration fee. Participant substitutions are always permitted.

Occasionally, trainings are cancelled. ODVN will refund your registration fee but is not responsible for reimbursement of travel costs, including pre-paid hotel rooms. If you make a hotel reservation, please make sure you can cancel without a fee.
